Siobhan Face & Bodypaint started out in the make up world before moving into face painting. Here she gives some advice on what to look for when you're hiring a face painter, and what to include on your request form.

What do you need to know from an organiser in order to provide a comprehensive quote?

For me to provide a comprehensive quote I would need the event date, time and address including postcode.

A brief explanation as to the type of event being hosted, estimated number of guests, whether indoors out and if this is an outdoor event whether you would be providing any form of shelter.

It is important to know the length of time they would like to book me for if this will be different to the length of the time of the event.

What advice would you give to a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Depending on the standard of work you are looking for perhaps enquire as to the level of experience someone in my field has. If you are looking for a facepainter for an adult event check that this is something they could cover. Perhaps you need them to have insurance.

Please tell us a little bit about how and why you started the business.

I started out as a make-up artist in London. My love of make-up led me on to painting on canvas for a few years and I excelled in this field. I bumped into a facepainter many years ago and was fascinated by the different techniques she was using to lay the paint on the skin and so I joined one of her classes and it took off from there. I haven't looked back.

Please tell us about a booking you've had through Add to Event, how did it go? Would you recommend us to others?

I am very new on this site and so far I have done only the one booking and I was very pleased with this. The family were very sweet. They were really happy with the service I provided. I got on really well with the mother who I chatted to for quite some time after the rest of the guests had left. We really bonded!
